Our Mission
To unlock the future of Ethiopian healthcare by transforming paper records into accessible, secure, and intelligent data. We are dedicated to empowering clinicians with the information they need to improve patient outcomes and building the foundation for a data-driven national health system.
Bridging the Information Gap
The Ethiopian healthcare system holds vast amounts of invaluable patient data, locked away in paper files and binders. This fragmentation hinders continuity of care and makes data sharing between facilities nearly impossible.[1] Doctors often lack access to complete medical histories, leading to inefficiencies and potential risks to patient safety.[1]
Digital Tena was founded to solve this fundamental challenge. By aligning with Ethiopia's national "information revolution" agenda, we provide a clear path for healthcare facilities to embrace a digital-first future, ensuring every patient's story is complete, secure, and instantly available when it matters most.[1]
Our Core Services
We offer a comprehensive suite of services designed to digitize, secure, and unify healthcare data, providing immediate value to hospitals and clinicians.
AI-Powered Digitization
Our proprietary AI model, specifically trained on Ethiopic scripts, accurately transcribes handwritten patient records, lab results, and prescriptions from scanned documents. This high-value data quality engine turns your paper archives into a structured, searchable digital asset.[1]
Secure EHR Platform
We provide a modern, intuitive Electronic Health Record (EHR) system where clinicians can instantly access patient histories. Our platform is built from the ground up to be compliant with Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation (PDPP) 2024, ensuring data sovereignty and patient privacy.[1]
Fayda National ID Integration
By integrating with the Fayda national ID system, we solve the problem of duplicate records. Our platform ensures a single, unified identity for every patient, enabling seamless registration and accurate record retrieval across all participating facilities.[1]
Our Vision in Action
We envision a connected healthcare ecosystem where data flows securely and intelligently to improve care at every level.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost for a hospital to use your service?
For our initial partner hospitals, we offer our core digitization service and EHR platform completely free of charge. This allows us to prove our value and build the foundational data asset that powers our system. We will introduce sustainable subscription models in the future.[1]
How do you ensure patient data is secure and private?
Security and privacy are at the core of our platform. We are fully compliant with Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation (PDPP) 2024. This includes storing all data on servers located within Ethiopia, implementing end-to-end encryption, and managing a robust digital consent process for patients.[1]
What languages and scripts can your AI handle?
Our AI model is specifically architected to handle the complexities of Ethiopic scripts, with a primary focus on handwritten Amharic. It is designed to be extensible and will support other local languages and scripts as our data grows.[1]
How does this system benefit our doctors and staff?
Your clinicians gain instant access to complete patient histories, improving diagnostic speed and quality of care. Administrative staff can register and retrieve patient records in seconds using the Fayda ID integration, reducing wait times and errors. It also frees up physical space and staff time previously dedicated to managing paper archives.[1]
